Early in the garden
nothing moves.
Noise from traffic
and airplanes overhead
is heightened.
The gardener comes
to battle weeds.
Then God invades
along with the bees.
What will the upshot be
of this meeting
of flowers, bees, and God
with me?
A filling of the empty—
a quickening—
a breath—
until the gnats begin to bite
and then I remember
my stated mission
of pulling weeds.

Genesis 2:7:
–then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Hymn: Breathe on Me Breath of God
