Prayers for Everyday

GUIDE OUR LEADERS

Lord, this morning my husband
went off with the garden keys
after picking tomatoes
for his string quartet.
So I am sitting on a bench
on the grounds of our retirement community.
Little gardens of pansies
are planted at each end.
Special wire nets cover the pansies
to save them from the deer
that live nearby.
A few leaves fall from the tree in front of me.
Thank you, Lord, for days of peace and quiet.
We need them
in the face of possible government shut-down.
Guide our leaders, Lord.

Luke 22:26b:
“…rather the greatest among you must become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.”
