Prayers for Everyday

FALL GARDEN

Lord of Creation, the garden
is drying up
in spite of all the rain
we’ve had.
The brown-eyed Susans
have died except
for one new plant
which is blooming
as though it were spring.
The marigold and zinnia leaves
are brown.
Straw flowers are at their best.
The pink anemones
that would have taken over the garden,
if I had not kept after them,
are barely blooming.
Lord, I hate to see the garden die
even though Fall is upon us
and Winter is coming.
We look forward to Spring
coming again.

Genesis 8:22:
As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.
