Prayers for Everyday

IMMIGRANTS

O Lord, the Nordic Friends
had a potluck luncheon
on Saturday.
This is a group of people,
from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark
or their descendants,
who live in our retirement complex.
We ate ham, meatballs,
pickled herring, lingon,
rice pudding, fruit soup
and many cookies.
I am reminded
of my Swedish grandparents
who were very dear to me.
In one generation or another
almost all are immigrants to this country.
Remind us, Lord, to be welcoming
to new immigrants.

Deuteronomy 10:19:
You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
