O Father God, my husband,
friends, and relatives
have birthdays this month.
It is a time of celebrations.
The Bible tells us that Pharaoh
celebrated a birthday
at the time of Joseph,
Herod had a birthday during Jesus’ lifetime,
and we celebrate Jesus’ birthday at Christmas
though no one knows the exact date.
Father, we mark birthdays
as important milestones in our lives
with singing and candles on a cake.
Thank you, Father, for giving us life.
On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants, and lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants.
But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company, and she pleased Herod so much that he promised on oath to grant her whatever she might ask.
