Yesterday, Lord, our church celebrated Palm Sunday
by walking around the outside of the building
and waving palm branches in memory of your
entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey.
Later in the service a group read
of your passion and death on the cross.
The story of your passion was added
to Palm Sunday some years ago
so that people wouldn’t go from
celebrating Palm Sunday to celebrating Easter
and miss the suffering and sorrow
that you went through for our sake.
Thank you, Lord, for your suffering
and death so that we might live.

Matthew 21:8-9:
A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

Matthew 27:50:
Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice and breathed his last.
