DON’T ASK!

O Lord, my friend came into my room
and asked, “Who am I.”
I was embarrassed.
I couldn’t remember her name.
If she had waited
until we had talked a little,
I would have remembered.
My world in this Health Care Center
consists of nurses and therapists
whom I see every day.
Old friends are from another world.
It takes a while to adjust.
Next time someone asks me for their name,
I’ll say, “Can’t you remember it?” and laugh.
That ought to do it.
Thank you, Lord, that you remember
everyone’s name.

Psalm 138:3
On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul.
