In church on Sunday, Lord,
we had the scripture
of your appearance at Emmaus
and how the disciples recognized you
in the breaking of the bread.
Where and when do we see you today?
Are we aware of your presence
when we take communion?
I remember when your presence
became real to me as a child.
I look forward to being fully with you in heaven.
Until then, I’m wondering about seeing you every day:
in other people, in the garden, and during communion.
Open my eyes, Lord, that I may recognize you
when you come by.

Luke 24:30-31
When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.  Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight.
