The sun is coming up.
Clouds are turning pink.
Day begins.
Lord ,what  have you in store for us today?
I pray for our country.
Show us the way, Lord.
I pray for the world and all the people in it.
We need your presence here, Lord.
Open our eyes to your guidance,
Lead us to lighten this corner
of the world.  Amen.
Psalm 19:1
The heavens are telling the glory of God; the firmament proclaims his handiwork
Hymn:  Open My Eyes, That I May See

Lord our God, some children live in apartment buildings
and may not know the joy of digging in the dirt.
They may dig in a sand box, which has been covered,
or sand at the shore, but that is not the same.
The good black earth has much to teach,
along with stones, ants, and other insects.
You know, Lord, that blocks or Legos
don’t take the place of natural building material.
A hole itself is a wonderful thing,
especially if filled with water.
Exploring this natural legacy
should be considered Childhood 101.
Lord, you have given us this wonderful world:
May children everywhere be allowed
to experience this heritage.  Amen.

Psalm 24:1
The earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it.

Matthew 19:-15
Then little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”  And he laid his hands on them and went on his way..

Ah, Lord, sometimes it’s hard
to get going in the morning.
I only want to lie back
and do nothing.
What do you say to that, Lord?
Maybe tomorrow I’ll have some pep,
but today I am going to read my book.
On the other hand,
I think I’ll get dressed.
Ah, Lord, I feel lazy.
Your presence surrounds even now.
Thank you for being with me.
You understand.  Amen.

Psalm 23:1-3a
The LORD, is my shepherd, I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul.

Ah, Lord, your Spirit hovers
seeking entrance into our lives.
We come to the garden
to open ourselves to your presence.
The garden is quiet now.
A big orange butterfly sails by.
A finch drinks from the birdbath.
Zinnias, black-eyed Susan,
and sunflowers bloom.
This is a filling station
for your peace, joy, and love.
Thank you, Lord.  Amen

Luke 11:13
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

Lord, it’s Monday morning.
A new week is ahead.
It’s the middle of summer
and it’s going to be a hot day.
Now is the time to slow down,
think long thoughts,
and make plans for the year ahead.
What is important, Lord,
now that I am older?
What activities can be let go?
Your love is our guiding Spirit
Open our hearts and minds
to new opportunities.  Amen.

1 Corinthians 13:13
And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

Ah Lord, if you wanted us to be perfect,
you shouldn’t have given us a choice.
Free will is a mixed blessing.
Some would say it’s a burden.
They would like to be able to rampage around
and not be held responsible.
They want to blame the Devil.
Lord, trying to do good is not so easy.
What is good for Jack, may not be good for Mary.
So much depends on learning and experience.
The Ten Commandments are pretty general.
And the Golden Rule can be even more evasive
in actual practice.
Lord, your Spirit is our best guide.
Give us the wisdom to follow.  Amen.

John 4:25-26
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him.  God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Lord, how long do you plan for us to live?
The Bible says that Methuselah lived 900 years.
Recently life expectancy in our country
was upped by ten years.
Some eighty year olds are still employed.
In our community people are slowing down,
but they still do many tasks,
and not always the work they did
when they were younger.
They enjoy doing new things.
Keep us growing in your Kingdom, Lord.
We are not done yet.

Genesis 5:27
Thus all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty-nine year and he died.

 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, comfort your hearts and strengthen them in ever good work and word.
