O God, I want inner joy.
To have it,
I must give up
all the hidden pockets
of unforgiveness
I have harbored
from childhood, young adulthood
and onward.
Help me to let go
and rest on your grace,
O Lord and Savior.

Hebrews 12:15a
See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up….

O Lord, I have always wanted to be special.
Now I read about someone
who celebrated being ordinary
among ordinary folks.
It gave me such a feeling of relief:
to not have to prove something.
Lord, your presence within
makes us special.
Forgive me, Lord, for trying so hard
to be better than others,
rather than accepting myself as I am:
one of your children,
all of whom are special

Psalm 105:4
Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually.

Luke 13:30
Indeed, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.

O Forgiving God, this morning
I am watching my daughter work.
She frames pictures
and restores paintings.
This morning she is working
on the portrait of someone’s ancestor.
She is removing years
of accumulated dirt
to reveal the original color.
When we come to you
with all our foibles,
you open our eyes
to layers of obfuscation
and avoidance of truth.
Forgive us God,
and restore us to the pristine creation
that you intended.

1 John 1:8-9:
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Hymn: Just as I Am, Without One Plea

O Gracious God,
when I arrived at the garden this morning
the birdbath was empty.
After I filled it,
I noticed that the parsley plant
beside it was covered with dew.
It reminded me of “putting out the fleece”
as a test of your faithfulness.
You were faithful with the dew.
I was remiss
with water for the birdbath.
Forgive me, O Gracious Lord,
for I neglecting my duties.
I am thankful
for Your faithfulness.

Judges 6:39-40:
Then Gideon said to God, “Do not let your anger burn against me, let me speak one more time; let me, please, make trial with the fleece once more; let it be dry only on the fleece, and on all the ground let there be dew.” And God did so that night. It was dry on the fleece only, and on all the ground there was dew.
