EATING TOGETHER

Dear Lord, yesterday the people
who live on our floor of these apartments
got together at dinner to share
stories and fellowship.
Some have lived in this building
since it was built 24 year ago.
Our newest resident
has been here less than a year.
Everyone is friendly.
No one has to cook
since we all eat in the dining room
of our retirement complex.
As we care for each other, Lord,
your love is shown.

Proverbs 17:17:
A friend loves at all times, and kinsfolk are born to share adversity.

FLOOR MEETING

Yesterday, Lord, was our monthly meeting
with people of our floor, in these apartments,
to see if there are any complaints
or other subjects that need attention.
We are always glad to get together
if only to chat and tell stories.
One person takes care of monthly
flower arrangements for the hall table.
She also gives out candy treats on holidays.
Another sees that birthday cards
are put out for everyone to sign.
Someone collects paper bags
for the food pantry.
We are glad to be together, Lord.

PROVERBS 17:17:
A friend loves at all times, and kinsfolk are born to share adversity.

FRIENDS

From my window, I see
rustling leaves of the soft maple
which draw me up
to blue skies beyond.
In the foreground a dark pine
stands like a sentry on duty.
I think of my good friends, Lord.
One is fluttery and the other sturdy.
I love them both in different ways.
I cannot love everyone the same.
The love of special friends
helps me to grow in love for others.
Mary, Martha, Lazarus, and John
were your special friends, Lord.
Did they inspire you?
Open my heart to greater love
and understanding.

Ezekiel 36:26:
A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

John 11:5:
Accordingly, though Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus, after having heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was.

John 19:26:
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.”
